Sony is treating the launch of PlayStation Move as if it were “a new platform.” Many times, when that happens, it means the company behind it takes a hit with each device sold — it certainly was the case with both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when they were both first launched. But unlike either of those launches, Sony won’t be losing any money with the launch of Move, according to Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida.

“We are pricing Move as if we are launching a new platform,” he told Develop. “So because the install base of Move will help third party studios create games for it, we benefit by helping those third parties.
But we are not losing money with each one we sell.”

When it’s released on September 19, the Move controller will cost $49.99, the navigation controller $29.99, and the PlayStation Eye $39.99. A bundle with all three of those pieces and a copy of Sports Champions will be available for a discounted price of $99.99.
